Our Story

It all started with a conversation in the park with friends…

Summer was ending and the conversation amongst the parents was all about preparing for the upcoming school year. Many of our friends were parents of teenagers and the topic of conversation changed to preparing kids to drive. Parent after parent began sharing their personal negative experiences with driving schools. There were instances of driving instructors yelling at students, using inappropriate language, and grabbing students by the arm. There were more stories of how driving instructors would fall asleep during the lesson, take students on personal errands, and students not knowing how to drive, even after 6 hours of expensive “professional” instruction. As parents of a 15 1/5 year-old daughter ourselves, the idea of putting her into a car for 2 hours with a stranger (especially after hearing those crazy stories) was unsettling to say the least… but it got us thinking…

What if we started a driving school? After all, Mel had been a driving school Instructor many years ago. He loved teaching the students to drive (he has always had a way with teenagers), and he knew firsthand what it took to be a great driving instructor. We began daydreaming about the idea of creating a reputable driving school in our community that would change the negative stigma associated with driving schools and their instructors. Within a month, Easy Street was born! 

Mel and I have used our past experiences to mold Easy Street into what it is today. When we are interviewing potential driving instructors, one of the questions we ask ourselves is, “Would we feel safe putting our own child in the car with this person for 2 hours?”  If the answer is, “Yes”, the candidate moves on to the next level of the screening process.

Mel personally trains each instructor to make sure they are teaching the students to drive safe and confidently with the same relaxed, positive environment that he creates. We work hard to make sure both the student and the parents feel confident choosing to spend their hard-earned money with us.

Easy Street has grown from 1 car with Mel as the only instructor to 5 cars and 7 instructors, all by a website and word of mouth. We have worked extremely hard to become a school that is trusted by our community, and we want to keep it that way.

We want to thank all the parents and students that have entrusted us with their sons and daughters 2 hours a time to help make them safe drivers.
