4 Steps For Teens to Get a California Driver’s License

All CA drivers must either have a valid learners permit or a valid license, regardless of age.

If you are over 17½ but under 18, you can get your permit without Driver’s Ed or Driving Lessons, but you will not be able to take the DMV Drive Test to get you’re Driver’s License until you turn 18.
